The Electromechanical Plant began production in May 1965.

Currently, the Brest Electromechanical Plant is part of one of the largest machine-building holdings in the Republic of Belarus, OJSC Bobruiskagromash Holding Management Company.

The enterprise was specialized by the USSR Ministry of Radio Industry for the production of peripheral devices for computing equipment.

In 1991-1995, in accordance with the re-profiling program approved by the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Industry and the state import substitution program, the plant mastered the production of technically complex products: gas and electricity meters of various modifications, pneumatic seeders, medical ultrasound equipment and household electrical appliances. OJSC Brest Electromechanical Plant was formed on the basis of a state enterprise and is its legal successor.

The transformation of the enterprise was carried out on the basis of order No. 134 dated June 30, 1997, of the Ministry of State Property of the Republic of Belarus. The form of ownership of the company is private with a state share in the authorized capital of 97.7%. Today, the enterprise produces and sells agricultural machinery, electricity and gas meters, medical devices, and also carries out trade and commercial activities.

The company has mastered and operates the most important basic technologies: mechanical processing, cold stamping, die casting from aluminum alloys, steel casting, investment casting, plastic casting from thermoplastics and pressing of thermosetting plastics, galvanic and paint and varnish production, assembly production, tool production, production of non-standard equipment.

In the second half of the 50s, the creation of the computer industry began in the USSR. Minsk became one of the centers for the design and production of computers.

The Minsk School of Computer Developers and Manufacturers originates from the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, adopted in August 1956, which determined the construction of the Minsk Computer Plant.

In October 1958, the next Government Resolution was issued on the establishment of a Special Design Bureau for the development of computing equipment and mathematical support systems at the Minsk plant, which was later transformed into the Scientific Research Institute of Computers. A series of successful developments by the SKB required an increase in production capacity for their release. The electrical measuring instrument plant under construction in Brest, in accordance with the Resolution of the USSR Council of Ministers of March 15, 1963, was reoriented to the production of peripheral devices for computers, and in order to overcome the shortage of engineering personnel in the development and production of computer equipment, on March 15, 1964, the Government of the USSR decided to open a radio engineering institute.

Thus, the foundations of the future computer industry were formed in the BSSR, which took a leading position in the USSR in the production of computer systems, computers, peripheral equipment, both for general industrial and defense purposes (for more details, see Computer Chronicle of Belarus).
